The composition of this four-colour print was established in the key block printed in black on a piece of paper which was immediately placed, face down, on to a new block of lino and run through the press, to transfer the design, so the design cut into the new block would fit together with the key block. This process was repeated for each further colour. To see a colour image of the final print and to read about the suffragette artist who it celebrates, go to the main menu, select ‘Artworks’, then ‘2001 to 10’, followed by ‘Edith Downing’.
